Spring 2021 Writers Workshop: Poetry (CW-4050-02)

No books required! In this semester's poetry workshop, we will read--closely, carefully--a packet of 4-5 poems for discussion each week. We will consider--closely, carefully--the craft and poetic technique, the tones and textures, the permissions and refusals, the dictions, the loves and furies of the poems. Memorization (of the poems) encouraged. The writing assignments will root themselves in the assigned reading and take off from there. Class time will be divided equally between discussion of the assigned reading and discussion of our new creative work (prose poems welcome). By the end of the semester, students will have produced a short chapbook of 10-12 new poems and a book review of their own work. Please see instructor for more information, encouragement and general good vibes. Prerequisite: 3 hours of a 2000-level creative writing class in the appropriate genre or consent of instructor.
